The Cultural Festival

Hey guys! So i’m back with news. The Cultural Festival was a huge success! Here’s my point of view. I woke up in the morning feeling fresh and then I suddenly remembered about the cultural festival. I jumped out of bed, got ready and went to school with my stuff. Mum made Summer Rolls for the shared lunch we were having. I hurried to school and quickly got to work (we haven’t finished our presentation yet). Then my best friend, Ivy, arrived. Ivy is in my group. The rest of the group then arrived. We were the I.MI.S. Then the bell rang. Luckily we could still work while the teacher was calling the roll.

We chose the pool table as our stall. We had a sign that said Egypt Hieroglyph Name Tags. There was no roof on the stall as we planned because it was in Room 6/7. Max had a good idea of hanging the sign under the table but I had a better idea. I quickly made a pole out of strong paper and stapled the sign on. Max and Isaac complained that Max had the idea first. So what? My idea is better! I reasoned with them and I won the fight.

After we set up our stalls, the class came over to room 5 so we could have our shared lunch. The shared lunch was set up in Room 5 because they already performed a dance after the IPU drummers finished. Ivy brought dumplings. It was DELICIOUS! I ate lots and ended up really full. We had a little break but then the bell rang for the end of Lunchtime.

We came back to our stall and waited for a little. Finally people started coming to our stall. They were interested because Hieroglyphs were quite ancient. People started making name tags for themselves. Max and Isaac were the first ones to take a break. Only Ivy and I handled the stall for the first 25 mins. It was going well. Well.. Until Max and Isaac took over.

Then Max and Isaac came back and said it was their turn. Wow! Time has really gone by! My first stop was the Mandala stall. They were some my best friends. I answered the quiz and got a booklet for a prize. So it seems like the rules are if you get a booklet, you can skip to the front of the line to get a henna. That’s my design that Mayar did for me.

Ivy and I returned to our stall to find Max and Isaac desperately trying to handle the stall. Hah! I can’t believe neither of them know how to tie a knot! There was a red plate with tape on it. Ugh. They don’t know how to handle a business well.

At the end, I had a great time and I was very happy with the henna. That’s it. Bye guys!

Our Integration Unit: Planning The Cultural Festival

Hey guys! Time has been flying and I was really busy over the last weeks. Our class had been learning about Culture. Our unit is called Culture on Your Mind. Our Inquiries are researching about the culture your group picks. Then for taking action, there will be a Cultural Festival on Wednesday. The IPU Drummers are going to come to our school and play the opening songs to our festival! I’m so excited! I mean.. It isn’t the first time for me to see the drummers perform but at our school? Awesome! Each groups from each classes will make a presentation. It can be dances, colouring in pages or translating apps. I don’t know!

Our group is doing Ancient Egypt. Max and Isaac are both really stubborn so we ended up having four activities on our stall. Mummifying rocks, Hieroglyph name tags, Egyptian Dances and Egyptian Gods. We only have one day left to prepare so I don’t think we’re going to be able to do the presentation about Egyptian Gods or Mummifying rocks. With the Egyptian dances, we pretty much only need to practice the dance and our costumes. We’ve nearly got our costumes sorted but the only thing we need are white trousers. Oh well. We’ll get it. So I’ll check back with you guys as soon as possible so I can inform you on how the Cultural Festival was. See you later!

Homework Of Week 1 Term 4

My Coat Of Arms Homework W1 T4

Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog! I hope you’ve had a nice Term Break! Today I’m going to talk about my homework for Week 1.

This is my family coat of arms. We value Friendship and Honor and our family name is Ngo.

Firstly the 2 dragons on the sides of the sheild are the Vietnamese traditional dragons. I put them on because I was born in Vietnam.

Another part is the cherry blossoms on the upper left. It dedicates that my family celebrate the Vietnamese Cherry Blossom Dance every year. Vietnamese people use cherry blossoms to represent Vietnam.

The ropes that are woven together means that my family and I are very close.

The golden star is also included in Vietnam. The shield’s colour and the star represents The Vietnamese Flag.

Lastly is the moon on the bottom right. It dedicates that my family and I celebrate The Moon Festval. August in Vietnam is Autumn although here, in New Zealand, it is the end of winter. Autumn in Vietnam means that the crops are ready to harvest.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Coat Of Arms! I hope you come back soon and I will be cooking up another Blog Post! See you later!

Term 3

Hey everyone! There were a lot of things happening in LAVA in the past few weeks.. One of our busy activities were our Interpret Challenge. Because we are studying about the Environment this term, our Interpret Challenge was to make a project about the challenges our amazing teachers set up for us. We could use programmes such as Scratch, Powtoon and Google Slides.. Here is a link for Ivy Y and my project: LINK. There are lots more other things that we’ve been doing and I wish I could tell you about all of them but it would start getting boring soon.

Another cool activity was our Digi Awards. I made a graphic design to enter. Most people made a digital photo but there can also be other types eg. Animation, iMovie and a short movie. Here is a photo of my graphic design.

For homework of week 7/8/9, The teacher shared a Google Slide with us about Passion Project. Passion means something you love to do or your favorite hobby. Then you had to make a question with a group or your partner about the things you want to find out. It can’t be what you already know. Then we had to do some research or find out some facts to answer your  group’s question. Ivy and I were buddies again. We’re like best friends. Anyways, our question was: Why does Twinkle Twinkle Little Star sound different with a Violin and Piano duet? Here is a link to our video: LINK.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Blog Posts so far. See you later until next term guys, Bye!!!

Start Of Term 3

Term 3 Blog Post: 1st August 2016

Since the start of Term 3, LAVA has been very busy doing many things, like building shelters for our group’s chosen animal.

After we finished our last few touches to make  our animal’s shelter perfect, we started making Scale Drawings of our shelters.
We started learning about our new unit called The Environment. We came up with questions about the environment that we wanted to research. We wrote these down on  Post-It Notes and stuck them on the board in one of four different categories: Conservation, Renewable and Nonrenewable Resources, Global Warming and Biodiversity.

On Wednesday Week 1, we got into groups of 4-5 to design this terms matrix. My group’s title for the unit and 4 names instead of Novice or level 1, Apprentice or level 2, Practitioner or level 3 and Expert was... you can guess. We had a secret vote on our deep understandings.
Our group and another group were chosen. See you next time for another exciting update at LAVA!
